Peace ya'll ! Betsy
Dear
Tortelvis,
I have just finished watching your new video. Jah-la-Palooza is
absolutely the finest live concert DVD I have ever seen! I must
also thank you for the autographs that you did for myself and my
friend Jerry. We are both huge fans! These DVDs will be the pride
of our collections! But, please forgive my ignorance........but....YTIGC?
Please save me from this torment! What does it mean?!

After
eagerly anticipating anything new from the legendary Dread Zeppelin
for months, I was thrilled to hear that a new concert dvd entitled
Jah la Palooza was soon to be released. As I always do when I receive
the shameless E-mails plugging the latest Dread Zep money-making
venture, I quickly went to the website and pre-ordered my copy.
The other day it finally arrived and I couldn't wait to check it
out. The disc looks and sounds great. The camera mix was good, the
graphics well done and the audio (while not exactly DTS-ES) was
more than satisfactory. The best thing about the new disc is that
the set list is intercut with backstage clips and crazy interview
snippets with the band (something sorely missing from the Minne-jah-polis
show). It's an outdoor, afternoon show, so the video isn't grainy
and the camera always seems to be where you would be looking had
you been filming the show yourself. As much as I love these guys
the set list seems a little tired. All of your favorites are there
as well as Smoke on the Water (a welcome addition to the set from
the Fun Sessions), but I would love to see a few tunes from Dread's
disco era or more material from Spam Bake included. Season permitting,
a few cuts from the Critmas album thrown in would be fun to see
live. The band was tight as ever and the recent return of the amazing
Carl Jah along with the addition of Ziggy Knarley a while back have
solidified the lineup. Tortelvis is vocally unchallenged and again
shows the world why he's the best chubby Elvis empersonator doing
Led Zeppelin tunes in a reggae style outside of Las Vegas! All in
all this is a great disc and shouldn't be missed by any fan of Dread
Zeppelin. And since you're reading this review on their website
I can only assume that you're either a fan or that your fruitless
search for strange, illegal porn has misdirected you here. In either
event don't be a cheap bastard, buy the dvd right now.

Torte
has added a thick greasy layer of rib poppin',eyeball bustin' and
toe rockin' info-tain-munt fun for all with the new DVD! I was knocked
out by the whole thing, from a Theremin being played with a crotch
to the rave of Jimmy Dean sausages. This is what music should be
about !

The
DVD was terrific. I was at the actual concert and this DVD captured
much of the excitement, but there is nothing like being there. Full
of energy. One thing the video did not capture was how dreadful
(pun intended) the weather was. I've gone to the last 4 or 5 shows
at Summerfest and usually the crowd is double the size. Had it not
been pouring rain, I'm sure the attendance would have been better.
One memorable event at this show was when Tortelvis through a deck
of cards to the audience during "Viva Las Vegas", I was
the lucky person to catch the Ace of Spades.

As
a Canadian Dread Zeppelin fan, my opportunities to see DZ live are
few and far between. So, when something like Jah-La-Palooza comes
along I jump at the chance to take in the phenomenon that is DZ's
live show. Technically, JLP was certainly on the high-end of independently-produced
concert DVDs. The vignettes on the trippy backgrounds were, to be
quite honest, distracting at first but were hilarious and welcome
changes of pace throughout the songs. The back-stage footage also
provided humourous insights into the lives of Tort and the boys.
While the set-list was predictable, the renditions were incredible
and the boys had enough showmanship to make them unique in their
own way. JLP gets two thumbs up from me!

Thought
the disc was great!! The live show was full of energy and excitement.
The boys "tongue and cheek" humor in the interviews was
hilarious. All in all the disc was just like being at a live show
(sort of). Really dug the disc,

A
huge step up in audio and video quality. Excellent collection of
songs. Such a great performance, I went looking for next year's
festival lineup! Dread hasn't been back to Dallas since they were
robbed here (not that I blame them but...we miss 'em!!so we've been
trying to find a fun venue to come see them! We must've played this
DVD a half dozen times before we even had it a week! But the overall
quality of this DVD pretty much beats all the others hands down.
Would love to see some of the videos remastered on DVD....hmmm?
We're all out here waiting!! Thanks again for some great music and
fun - if we can't get 'em to come to Dallas, at least we can have
the next best thing! Keep 'em comin'!!!! Peace & Love from TX,

Me
and my buddies love the new DVD. Especially when we get to see my
buddy Jim's wife Anna-Marie kiss Charlie. I also thought the behind
the scenes interview segments were great. Charlie's interview segments
were very spiritually enlightening. See you again in Milwaukee this
summer.
